Wherry Guestbook

Here are guestbook entries from people who have been on Albion in 2014.

Penny Stockwell : August - 2014

We have just had the most BRILLIANT day. It wasn’t easy to find a boat-orientated activity to celebrate my husband’s 70th that would keep the whole family occupied and happy but, my word, The Albion experience fitted the bill beautifully. The youngsters were kept busy as were the adults who had the energy. Skipper Bill, Mate Daniel and Trainee Kim were superb with the encouragement that the children COULD perform a task and almost everyone (except me with a twingy hip) had a go at everything. An ideal stopping place of Howe Hill gave those who felt inclined a chance to kick a football about and ice creams were enjoyed by passengers and crew alike. The peace and calm of the evening sail will not be forgotten and as my husband remarked – ‘well that was a trip for one and all to remember.’ Thank you so much.

Geoffrey Graves : July - 2014

We had a fantastic day out on the Wherry with the Wensum Ramblers. Photo's of Ros, Monica and Sue pulling the Werry back to it's moorings one of the Werry in full sail and one of our crew for the day. Thanks to Joyce for organising the day out also the crew for looking after us so well.
Webmaster's note : Good to see the ladies earning their keep !

Trevor Hipperson : July - 2014

Strong July winds prevented us sailing but the forecast rain failed to materialise so a bit of a good news/bad news sort of day. Thanks to Roger, Phil & Richard for looking after us and making sure we kept out tiller skills up to scratch and for sparing us the "Otter Joke" ! A great day out was enjoyed by all.

Jeff Stamps : July - 2014

THE 'STILL CLINGING TO THE WRECKAGE CRUISE 2014'
Despite having fine weather for the last 3 weeks, the day began with rain and wind. Undeterred, the party enjoyed an excellent morning sail, fortified by croissants and coffee, until lunch at Malthouse Broad. The afternoon was considerably better with weather improving and a circuit of South Walsham was interrupted with champagne followed by scones and clotted cream. A superb day for everone and a truly unique experience for everyone, with the exception of one who was last on in about 1961 with Nat Bircham. A huge thanks to the crew (and the catering staff) who made the day so memorable.

Valerie Broad : June - 2014

Colin Rice : June - 2014

Hi, had a great day on Albion on a day that gave us three seasons' weather on our trip from Ludham to Horning. The only one missing was Autumn & that's because the leaves remained on the trees. The thunder & lightning with the torrential rain & hail had us scurrying below deck but our crew of Mike, Clive & Chris remained steadfastly at their posts. I enjoyed the opportunity to raise the sail (twice) & to take the tiller for an extended time on the outward journey. The attached picture captured one of the lightning bolts seen on the way home.

Chris Latimer : June - 2014

The 30th Norwich explorer scouts weekend with me as mate and Mike Sparkes as skipper, all 10 explorer scouts were invested while aboard ! Great weekend.

Jean Mitchell : June - 2014 (Email extract)

Hello Pamela - please pass on thanks and appreciation from Ingoldisthorpe Village WI to Peter and Chris - oh what a lovely day we had yesterday on the Albion. Everyone went home saying it was the best day they had had for years - and appreciated it was quite a unique experience. Everything was in our favour - the sun shone, the wind blew just enough, the crew were great and we managed to provide enough food for the five thousand! I did not see a visitor's book or anywhere to give any feed back, so please take this as a huge thanks to all at the Wherry Trust.

Michael Rugen : June - 2014

We had a fantastic day. The weather couldn't have been better for a day of gentle sailing down to South Walsham. The Skipper and crew, (Clive, Roger & Jeff) were great, putting us to work on the winch, the mud weights and at the helm. As well as showing us how to Scandalise! A trip on the Wherry Albion is a quintessentially East Anglian experience - a must for anyone wanting to experiece traditional Norfolk. Please pass on my thanks to all of the crew and other volunteers at the Norfolk Wherry Trust!

Geoff Weyman : May - 2014 (Email extract)

Would you please pass on our thanks to Henry, Dave and Phil for a wonderful day out on Albion last Tuesday. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was my first visit to the Broads. Many thanks again. from Geoff, Clare, Hazel and Anne.

Susan Cartwright : May - 2014

We had a magnificent day aboard the gracious wherry Albion thanks to Ann Reeder's organisational skills, and sailing the Broads took two of us right back to reading Swallows and Amazons! Our skipper and his crew were professional and friendly and we learnt a great deal from them. The vessel was comfortable and well-equipped. What a delight to sail this historical gem, lovingly restored, maintained, and operated by dedicated volunteers. We would recommend it to anyone who enjoys boats, the Broads, birds and travelling at such a dignified pace.

Richard Morris : May - 2014

A great day out in spite of a bit of hail!
